Co-Founders

In August 2010, a wild idea was hatched at the Abbotsford Sevens Tournament in British Columbia. What if someone were to build a business aimed at growing the sport of rugby in North America around the single greatest sevens player of all time? The business would grow the funnel of children exposed  to the game and offer professional instruction through the youth to elite player and coaching spectrums.

In on the discussion that day were four people who would eventually join forces to launch Serevi™: Waisale Serevi, Chris & Julie Prentice and Semi Lotawa.

As the four talked, the confluence of purpose and opportunity was evident.  Serevi was wrapping up a 21-year international career and looking for his next challenge, preferably something that allowed him to give back to the sport that had given him so much. As lifelong rugby enthusiasts, Chris, Julie & Semi were looking for a way to grow the sport in a meaningful way. Rugby was gaining traction in North America:  participation was growing rapidly from a small base; visibility had increased when rugby was named to the official summer Olympic slate for 2016; and NBC had signed on to provide live coverage of the Rugby World Cup and the College Rugby Championships.

The timing seemed right to approach the sport and its growth in a new way. The more the four talked, the more the idea and the timing made sense.

In late autumn of 2010, four entrepreneurs did what entrepreneurs do:  they took a leap of faith and started a business with two arms: 1) on-field rugby development through the youth to elite spectrum; and 2) a line of casual and performance rugby apparel. While it’s still early, the signs are immensely positive!  There appears to be fantastic pent-up demand for high quality rugby instruction at all levels.

Our four co-founders welcome you to the greater Serevi™ community and look forward to growing the game with your help.
